It was reported that Activision plans on delaying CoD 2023 by a year and releasing a free-to-play game instead. JGOD believes that if this new title is Warzone 2, then it could spell disaster for Warzone’s current iteration.
A ton of news, leaks, and rumors have been surrounding 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 and the sequel to Warzone – ‘Warzone 2.’ It’s already been confirmed that MW2’s new engine will also act as the foundation of a “new Warzone experience,” but a recent report has popular YouTuber JGOD concerned for the future of Warzone 1.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that Activision plan on delaying Treyarch’s CoD 2023 by a year and releasing a free-to-play title instead. JGOD believes that if this free-to-play title is Warzone 2, it could spell trouble for Warzone 1.
While its possible that Warzone 2 will release on Warzone’s anniversary in March 2023, JGOD considered that delaying Treyarch’s game could mean that Warzone 2 will have more time to be developed and will release later in the year in a better state. However, he worries that this could mean that Warzone is left to gather dust for a whole year.
“I don’t think [Modern Warfare 2] will be integrated into Warzone at all,” he explained. “And that means you’re not gonna get really any new content for Warzone 1.”
“Once MW2 drops, there will probably be almost no new content in Warzone all the way until Warzone 2 launches,” he continued. “Other than the seasonal patch update and maybe a one-off weapon here or there, I don’t think [its] going to be supported with full seasons.”
“I would say they’re gonna drop another map, but that doesn’t necessarily make sense if Warzone 2 drops a few months later,” he concluded, saying it’s “in kind of a limbo.”
Of course, almost everything JGOD discussed is based on leaks and rumors, and Activision haven’t officially confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 will be supported for two years. Plus, the free-to-play title mentioned could be the rumored Escape from Tarkov-style DMZ mode.
